On February 27th, 2020, I photographed the Magic City Hippies at their sold out show in Dallas.
Modern Animal is the first concert tour I've been invited to photograph, and I don't intend for it be the last. I love being in the middle of live action!
There's something special about capturing community in a space where diverse people gather to appreciate something- whether it be music, art, or other forms of entertainment.
People become present & connected in these communal spaces- setting aside their differences for the simple enjoyment of someone else's talent.
FIRST UP: MAYE
The mysterious girl in the pink cowgirl hat.
Maye took center stage as the Modern Animal Tour opening act. She swiftly mesmerized the room with her airy, boleros pop sound. Maye mused to catchy drop tempos that left the audience in a dreamy state of mind.
I knew the Trees stage would not be the last time I saw her in the limelight.
Since then, Maye has been featured on prominent 2020 playlists such as Barack Obama's Summer Playlist.

Channel a Miami night drive in the era of disco with modern funk and bossa influences- that's the lingering feel of the Magic City Hippies. Not much else compares to the bands safari synth.
